Iman Vellani is one of those fresh faces that often pops up in Hollywood out of nowhere. At just 20 years of age, she has already started a ripple across the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fanbase. This is because she recently got cast as the lead character of Kamala Khan in the Marvel Disney Plus (Disney+) series “Ms Marvel”. Here’s a sneak peak at the trailer before you get to know Iman Vellani better.

Early Life of Iman Vellani

Vellani’s parents are both first generation Pakistani immigrants to Canada. They both graduated from the York Regional Municipality’s “Unionville High School” in Canada, and got married in a traditional Muslim marriage ceremony in Markham in Canada. Iman Vellani was born in this same region of Markham and grew up to adopt the multicultural values of Canada. While she started out as a comedian, she is now all set to take up a major action blockbuster role as the Marvel comic book superheroine Ms Marvel. Currently she does not have much of a fanbase but upon completion of the Ms Marvel series airing, we predict that she will soon touch a million followers on Instagram.

Her Role in Ms Marvel

Ms Marvel is a superhero in the Marvel Comics that originated as an offshoot from the original Captain Marvel. This character was introduced in the Ms Marvel #1 comic book that was released on January 1977. This means Ms Marvel is not that recent of a Marvel character to come to the big screen. This character was created by writer Gerry Conway and artist John Buscema. Ms Marvel, whose alter-ego is Kamala Khan, originally was a Pakistani. This made Vellani the perfect actor to play this role since she is also an immigrant Pakistani in Canada. Hence, there has been some recent buzz about the Marvel Cinematic Universe introducing its very own Muslim superhero character.

Takeaway

Now that the MCU has introduced its first Muslim superhero to live action, it is yet to be seen which other interesting yet obscure superhero is brought to life on the big screen. If you haven’t watched Ms Marvel on Disney Plus Hotstar yet, don’t worry, it has not started to air yet. Ms Marvel is set to being airing on Disney Plus Hotstar, or simply Disney Plus (outside India), from 8th June 2022. But we highly recommend that before you dive into this new series, do watch Marvel’s Moon Knight!
