The Story of Mona Patel

Mona Patel Chaiwali being interviewed

Mona hails from a small town in the Patna region of Bihar. Coming from a middle class family, she did not have much to start her business with. Many food bloggers and vloggers have asked her the same question. Why a tea stall? To this, her reply has always been the same. Due to financial difficulties in her family, she could not invest more than INR 10-15k in her business. Hence, she set up a small stall with a tiny banner and purchased the required equipment and inventory to begin her tea stall (chai ki dukaan).

Takeaway

Mona Patel has often been shunned by her family for taking up such a business. According to her parents, she should have employed a worker at her tea stall instead of doing the work herself. Moreover, society says that women should not venture into such business with manual labour. Nevertheless, Mona thinks that it is society that uplifts women, and it is the same society that bashes them. Do you agree with her? Let us know what you think in the comments.
