If you haven’t watched all the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies yet, then you definitely should. SPOILERS AHEAD if you haven’t done so! However, if you are an ardent fan of the MARVEL comic book cinematic universe, then go ahead! In this list, we break down the 2 trailers of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as well as the latest TV Spot Trailer. So, here’s our predictions for who the main villain in this movie might be.

List of possible villains in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

1. Wanda Maximoff

Scarlet Witch as the main villain in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Let’s start the list off with Wanda Maximoff AKA Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen. After her portrayal as a misguided grieving lover in the web series Wanda-Vision, many have theorized that Wanda is the main villain of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. We think that this might be partially true. From the TV Spot trailer, we catch a glimpse of Zombie Scarlet Witch, who was portrayed in the Marvel ‘What If…’ animated series. This affirms our prediction that the zombie version of Wanda might just be the main villain.

2. Evil Doctor Strange

Another possibility is that Evil Doctor Strange, whom we caught a glimpse of in the first trailer, might be the main villain. After seeing the episode 4 of ‘What If…’ season 1, we concur that there may be a strong possibility of that evil version of Doctor Strange battling it out with the real Doctor Strange in this movie. However, since fans have already witnessed this showdown in the ‘What If…’ animated series, this prediction may be inconclusive.

3. Nightmare

Keanu Reeves as Nightmare in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - fan theories

Nightmare is a character created by the same creator of Spiderman, Stan Lee, and first appeared in the Marvel comic book ‘Strange Tales #110’. Since the trailer shows Doctor Strange saying the words “the nightmare begins”, we think there is a strong possibility of this demonic supervillain being the main antagonist in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

4. The Illuminati

Although the Illuminati in the Marvel comics was a preservationist group, this movie may portray them as the real villains. It is very much possible that this group of super-powered individuals are the ones pulling the strings in the background. If you watch the trailer closely, you will notice that Patrick Stewart’s Professor Xavier from the original X-Men movie franchise is a member of this group!

5. Tom Cruise’s Iron Man

If you’re a true follower of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you would know that Tom Cruise was almost selected to play the role of Tony Stark in the first Iron Man movie instead of Robert Downey Jr. There is no clear evidence from the trailer that Tom Cruise’s Superior Iron Man (a variant of Tony Stark’s Iron Man) is a part of this movie. However, rumors suggest that he might just be the real villain of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Final Thoughts?

Regardless of who the main villain may be, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been the most anticipated Marvel movie after Spiderman: No Way Home. Be sure to catch this movie in the theatres on 6th May 2022 and experience the madness on a larger than life scale.
